Weekly report #3 [MEETINGS & VISITS]

This week was action packed with cultural events, meetings and visits! In next week's report Ill write more in depth about the development of my project.

First I went with the Nabi team to visit a digital arts exhibition, inside a theme park, which in itself is insde a shopping mall. The exhibition was by a group of digital artists that make playful, interactive experiences Involving surrounding projections that portray a generative worlds; that one can play with. I have never seen so many beamers in one exhibition! The result was a lot of fun, especially for children.

Carolina Guillermet's studio

On Thursday there was a meeting with two members of the Dutch Embassy, at the Tazak Madang building of Nabi, where Harshit and I work. This location also house the EI Lab and other Nabi offices, but this large location also features weekly classes and lecture / music programs. It was a pleasant informal meeting. Nabi Center already had a cultural connection with the Dutch Embassy and the reason for this meeting was a good one: after many years of struggling the Dutch embassy in Korea has finally gotten a staff position especially for culture: Hajin Lee, who might look Korean, but speaks perfectly Dutch πŸ™‚ In this meeting Harshit and me also spoke about our works and our projects in the Nabi residency.

This week I also visited the MMCA Changdong residency open studio's to see the program, location and to meet people and network. Together with the Nabi team and Harshit we set off to Changdong in the North. This turned out a fun and social event; Due to a long day of meetings we arrived late and jumped straight into the 'afterparty' in Tim Breukers' studio, who is currently doing a 5 month residency at the MMCA Changdong. I had nice conversations with people and exchanged contact details with many people from the MMCA but also from beyond; other Artists in residency programs in Korea.

Last but not least I visited the DMZ; A very touristic crowded place, but I think it was still very worthwhile to go. This 'demilitarized zone' borders with North Korea. Especially I enjoyed to learn about the histories and see the historical places related to these stories.
